The Quest for Sleep is a documentary that follows real characters whose struggles with sleep threaten to unravel their waking lives. The character of “Sleep” (voiced by Octavia Spencer, Hidden Figures, The Help, The Shape of Water, Fruitvale Station) narrates, acting as a poetic and insightful foil to our cast, and leads the audience to experts who illuminate the science behind how we sleep and what keeps us awake. Powerful 3D animation takes us inside the brains of our characters as the stories playing out in their lives echo across their synapses.
Featured in the film are professional basketball player, Andre Iguodala, Olympic runner, Emma Coburn – both of whom prioritize good sleep habits to perform their best and ensure they’re getting proper recovery – and US Army Retired Lieutenant General, Rick Lynch. Also featured in the film are medical experts and key opinion leaders who share insights and answer questions about how we sleep and what keeps us awake – Sleep epidemiologist Dayna A. Johnson, PhD, MPH, MSW, MS; Psychiatrist and Sleep Medicine Specialist, Meeta Singh, MD; and Behavioral Sleep Medicine Specialist Michael Grandner, PhD, MRT. The film was directed by Rachel Mills, written by Josh Adler and produced by Mills and Adler. James Lawler, Christie Anbar and Michael A. Moye served as Executive Producers.
